"We were in your shop last week looking for an outfit for Little Miss Peach. My granddaughter Callie, second from the left in the attached picture, won 2nd alternate in Little Miss Sweetheart wearing an outfit we found in your shop several months earlier. The outfit also won raves from the other contestants' mothers because of the style, but also the colors seemed to stand out while she was on stage. I understand, with regret, that she is about the "age out" of the clothes in your store. That's a shame because we really like the originality in the clothes you have in stock. We're from Clanton, and it's not easy to find the type of clothes the young girls seem to be wearing (note the other girls in the pageant).

When in your store last week, we found this same color, but nothing in a casual pants outfit. (She wears a size 6x). Should you get any other clothes in stock like the ones we have in mind, please let us know. We're not too far from you and enjoy any excuse to come back for a visit.

Prattville's annual Candy Walk was held today and the number of walkers has drastically increased over the years! A record number turned out today to parade in their costumes and gather goodies from downtown merchants!
This sweet angel is Lena Grace, my son Shane's daughter.
She's the reason Cute as a Button came into being ~

"Prattville Woman Doesn't Let Wall Street Financial Woes Dictate Future"

Driving a nail in one wall and brushing a coat of paint on another a few feet away, Patti Phelps doesn't spend her time worrying about what happens on Wall Street. That's because Main Street is where her dreams and passions lie.

"When I became a grandmother and shopping around for some children's clothes, I said 'I can do this,' said Phelps. That was two years ago. Now Phelps is just weeks away from moving her children's apparel business into a much larger building in downtown Prattville.

"We'll be doubling our rent and our power," she said. And she plans to add an employee.

Patti Phelps is fully aware she is taking a risk in the middle of what many have said are 'uncertain times.' The uncertainty of Wall Street and the bitter political battles in Congress over the failed bailout plan. "I'm scared to death," Phelps said with a nervous laughter.

Yet Phelps wouldn't have it any other way. "Why do I think I can do this? I have so much passion for this. My customers are so positive. We'll make it work and do a lot of praying," said Phelps.

She won't be at this location much longer, so let's walk through before the front door is closed for the last time. Coming up onto the front porch and through the front door of this 1940's cottage you find yourself in~what has affectionately become known as The Lavender Room. The Birthday Room is just beyond the doorway. Looking to your right, you'll see ~ a center unit which has preemie, newborn and dedication clothing. You'll also find gifts destined to be heirlooms. Around the perimeter of this room are shoes, sandals, hair ribbons and bows, and New Arrivals. You'll find items to personalize, photo frames, Lovies, and Angel Dear blankets. I have always had an insatiable love for fine things for children. I worked in retail as a young mother and thought how great it would be to have my own specialty shop one day. Years later, after my 3 children were grown, I began to pursue a college degree in order to advance in my job with State Government. It took me 8-1/2 years going to classes part-time and working full-time. Upon accomplishment of my Business Degree, I told my husband, Kenny, I was tired of being so busy and now would settle for working a 40-hour week until I had 25 years with the State.

In 2006, we were blessed with our first grandchild, Lena Grace, who is truly "cute as a button." As a first-time grandmother, I did a lot of shopping! While shopping for her, my interest in children's fine clothing grew. I realized that just working full-time was not enough for me and I needed something more. As I got closer to retirement, I began to think a lot about that specialty shop and how I could encompass my family. I decided it was definitely time to put my passion into place and take that risk. With the love, support and physical labor of my family, Cute as a Button Boutique opened its doors for business in October of that same year. One year later, Lena Grace's cousin, Connor Everett was born, and we now have two "cute as a button babies" sharing our hearts, making purchasing apparel and gifts even more fun! Two years after opening, we were blessed by being able to move into a larger building, in the historic part of downtown Prattville on Main Street!

Cute as a Button is an upscale boutique that offers brands of clothing for infants and children not available in department stores. We carry many of the fine brands for children that are available nationally. We create shopping for infants and children not only convenient, but satisfying, and in a very pleasant atmosphere.

Our selections are personally chosen by me to bring high quality garments to this area, as well as, wear ability. Garments that reflect classic traditions, pieces of yesterday for the hip child of today, and also sassy fun! I order garments that I know will brighten a customer's face as they choose for a newborn or for that special little person in their life. I choose only what I want my grandbabies to wear and love each and every style that I choose; garments that are as unique as the children who will wear them.

My staff and I take pleasure in being part of that memorable experience of helping a new mother choose that “special” outfit to bring her precious baby home from the hospital. At Cute as a Button, we take great pride in offering personable service to those who walk through our front door.
